Bricolage

Taking an item or product and adapting it in such a way to create a new meaning for the object. This adaptation of an object also changes the item’s orignial intended use.

My examples represent “bricolage” by showing how a simple item, in this case seat belts, has been adapted from its original use to create purses, belts, chairs, among other products. Seat belts were originally used in cars, but by taking an item that humans normally give little thought to other than clicking in place before driving, the meaning of seat belts has now changed and reflects a fashion statement to wear, carry, or use as a piece of furniture.
